鉛字印刷
鉛字排版完成之後，會依據版面大小、紙張厚薄選擇不同的機型進行印刷。
在活版印刷興盛時期，有不同的印刷需求，從小面積的譬如印名片、吊牌、卡片、信封為主的電動小型印刷機（又稱名片機）；印製喜帖、明信片的需要有較明顯印紋或精美線條的電動圓盤印刷機；到以印製書籍、面積較大的報紙為主要大宗的菊對開圓壓式印刷機（老師傅習慣稱之為活版車）；更大量印刷的譬如報社印製報紙，則使用高速輪轉印刷機。
在台灣有90%的活版印刷行都有菊對開圓壓式印刷機，老師傅暱稱為「活版車」的機器，是早期台灣活版印刷行最常見的機型，它印刷機速度快、印製面積大，若為印製書籍大都使用菊全開或全開印刷機，待排版完畢後，依照台數上機，印製完畢後，再將半成品送去裁切，按照順序將書籍裝訂。
現今會操作活版車的老師傅幾乎都已屆高齡七十歲以上，多已呈現退休狀態，機器也因為幾乎沒有運作，若遇零件損壞，也幾乎無法修理。少數有在運作的機器多為印製流水號。
After typesetting, depending on the sizes of the type galleys and thickness of paper, typesetting masters choose different kinds of printing machines for printing.
In the heyday of letterpress printing, there were different printing needs－from business cards, swing tags, cards and envelopes printed by the business card machine, or wedding invitations and postcards with decorative streaks and lines printed by the power platen press machine, or books and newspapers printed by the folio printing press (old masters called it “letterpress cart”) or even the bulk printing of newspapers printed by the rotary press owned by news agency.
In Taiwan, 90 % of letterpress printing plants had folio printing presses. In fact, the folio printing press nicknamed “letterpress cart” was the most common printing machine in the past. It printed at a high speed and could print large format printing. A1 and B1 printing machine were mostly used for book printing. After typesetting, the number of signatures required were estimated and sent to the printing machine to print. After printing, the raw printed sheets were cut and bound in a sequential order to create a book.
At the moment, these old masters who know how to use letterpress carts are almost over 70 years old and most of them are retired. On the other hand, most letterpress carts have not been used for a long time. If parts of letterpress carts are damaged, they cannot be repaired. Therefore, only a few letterpress carts are still in operation and used to print serial numbers.
