史料原文/譯文Located in Longgang, Zhongli, the current Mazu New Village was not named after the local residents from Mazu but was set up in 1957 by the Mazu Defense Command to accommodate the dependents of those military men stationed at Mazu Island.
In the community are a kindergarten, a self-governance council and a women's federation office. The octagonal pavilion located in the central ring is used as the focal point, from which the checkerboard road system and the dormitory buildings radiate to have formed a unique space texture. Thus, a unique living space is created in this community. As life has been stable here, the number of households has expanded from the originally estimated 76 to about 226 today, and many public facilities have also been added on the surroundings to form a self-sufficient military village.
The Mazu New Village has been repaired and reused by taking the perspectives to preserve and activate the culture of the military dependents' villages. The cultural and creative film and television base has later been established in the Mazu New Village, and its Activity Center has been transformed into the city's first Taoyuan Arts Cinema, in which housing space is planned for the cultural and creative industries and such events as film festival, cultural festival and other arts and cultural performances are also organized to preserve and actively promote the military dependents' villages. The Mazu New Village is said to have formed the "Iron Triangle" of military dependents' villages in the city, together with the Daxi Taiwu New Village and the Guishan Xianguang 2nd Village, with each shaping its own characteristics from different angles.
