史料原文/譯文Originally from Fujian Province, China, the Jian Family settled in Daxi's Neizha Village, and has since created a lineage of more than 180 years.
The Family's Historical Residence has undergone several restorations. It takes after Sanheyuan's design, using the traditionally unburnt sun-dried bricks and pebble stones as foundation, plus materials from Qing Dynasty, Japanese colonization and post-Nationalist's takeover. The original Fujianese tiled rooftop, simplified node of wooden structures, the unburnt sun-dried bricks and pebble-stoned walls, plus the narrow opening reveals the Historical Residence's true colors.
The Historical Residence's architectural design allowed for a private outdoor space at the front courtyard; furthermore, the trees planted in the back of the Residence not only accentuates its magnanimity, but also offers protection against the elements. This feature makes it a typical example of scattered villages in northern Taiwan, making nearby residences conforming to its geography, thus establishing a scattered community layout.
Such is an architectural example equipped with immense cultural value that also showcases locality's unique landscape; coupled with the owner's desire in its preservation, the Jian Family's Historical Residence was well-kept for the most part. Through efforts from different entities, the hope is to restore, reuse and revive its original splendor, and to extend partnerships with the local farming scene to further its cultural and economic benefits.
