史料原文/譯文Dashulin Bridge is behind Taoyuan Train Station right by Lane 30, Changan Street. It crosses over Dongmen River, and is one of Taoyuan's earliest concrete bridges.
The old city of Taoyuan was first built due to the Zhang-Quan armed feuding; Dongmen River was its eastern border.
In 1806, the feud began when immigrants from Quanzhou set the properties of those from Zhangzhou on fire. In 1809, Zhangzhou immigrants took the area from today's Zhongshan and Zhongzhen Rd. to Changnan St. (toward the train station) and built ground walls for self- defense. In 1834, the walls were rebuilt as a rectangular stone fort that had covered today's Taoyuan area, east to Dongmen River, west to Temple of the City God, south to Nanmen River and north to Beimenpu.
Nowadays, Dongmen River has been transformed to East River Green Garden Pedestrian Zone. The Japanese-built, 86-year-old Dashuling Bridge was the only connection between Taoyuan and Yingge, and a refuge for the locals undergoing air raid. It is a well-kept, working
bridge showcasing the era's charm.
