The Taroko Gorge is a part of the Takkiri and a proposed national park of Taiwan. It runs in about 50 kilometers, originates in the Central Mountain, and flows into the Pacific Ocean. At a point 15 kilometers from the estuary stands erect the famous Sankakusuizan, literally "pyramidal peak, sweeping the sky to a height of 1,200 meters. Just half way up this cliff is a path cut of the rock, a meter wide and 1,000 meters long from where a torrential gorge can be looked down upon almost perpendicularly beneath. The view at this point is said to have no rival.
