Citizens of Chiayi City in taiwan have a special Spring Festival custom: visiting the graves of ancestors on the 1st or 2nd day of the Lunar New Year. On the morning of the 1st day of New Year (or postponed to the 2nd day if the 1st day is not the auspicious day), many families visit the garves and clear up the weeds before make offerings to their ancestors and God of the earth. This custom is supposed to be related to the Spring Festival outings and because most people return to their hometown during the Lunar New Year, it makes a good chance for the whole family to visit the graves together.
