In the ancient Confucian ceremonies, the Spring Equinox is the time for praying to the Earth God for the good harvest and the Autumn Equinox is the time for giving thanks to Him. Later on, the ceremony of ʹSpring Prayers and Autumn Thanksgivingʹ(春祈秋報) has become the rituals of celebrating the ʹtwoʹ birthdays of the Earth God on the second day of the second lunar month in Spring and on the Moon Festival in Autumn and successfully localized in Taiwan.
