The Dragon Boat Race in Bitan(碧潭) along the Hsindian River(新店溪) in Taipei County(台北縣) has been held every year since 1992.Before the race, a consecrating ceremony will be held to bestow spirits to the dragon boats which would participate in the race. After the race finished, another ceremony will be held on the river bank to give thanks to the Dragon King of the river by offering the sacrifices of the flowers, fruits, paper money and candles. Besides, the winner team in the race will hold the ritual of the "giving thanks to the river"(謝江) by rowing the boat reversely from the terminal point back to the starting point and spread the paper money in the middle of the river to give thanks to the river god and sending away the wandering souls of the drowned people in Bitan.
