Besides Chiu Yuan, the‘Water Deity the Honorable King’, another important god for the Dragon Boat Festival is the Dragon King in chrge of the waters. According to the Taoist belief, there are four Dragon Kings in four Oceans in the world. One of the traditional customs of the Dragon Boat Festival in Lu Gong(鹿港) is that before the dragon boat race could be held, all the drangon boats should be carried to the Lung Shan Temple which worships the Holy God of Dragon King(龍王尊神), and the believers would make offering to the Dragon King for praying Him to bestow spirits to the boats and to ensure the safety of the race.
