At the Lantern Festival night, the dark sky over the Pingsi would be lighten up by thousands of bright sky lanterns. Located in the mountainous area, it was very difficult for the residents of Pinghsi to communicate with each other in early days. Therefore, they fly the "sky lanterns", which was said to be created by Chu Ke-liang (諸葛亮) during the period of the Three Kingdoms, to inform each other as signals. Gradually, with the improvement of the traffic, the sky lanterns have lost their practical functions and become the religious symbols as conveying the wishes of the peaople to the Heaven Gods on the fist full moon night in the Lunar New Year.
