In Neihu area in Taipei, the most famous activity on the Lantern Festival is Nong Tu Di Gong (弄土地公,Bombing the Earth God). It has lasted for more than a hundred years and originated from the custom of praying for the wealth by the shopkeepers. In ordinary days, the Earth God Temple is the local center of the belief; at the night of the Lantern Festival, the residents would carry the Earth God in a parade for the crowd to cast firecrackers on the godʹs carriage or to set off fireworks for welcoming the Earth Gad and pray for the business properity.
