Bombing Han Dan Ye on the Lantern Festival originated from the custom of welcoming the wealth god in the Lunar New Year. It was said that casting firecrackers could drive the cold away from Han Dan Yeʹs body and the more one cast, the more successful and welthy he would become. Because this activity is highly dangerous, it had been prohibited for a time. Today, it is held by the Matsu Temples in Hualian and Taitung County and constitutes the important part of the two day long Matsu palankeen parade.
