史料原文/譯文"Built in the 1960s, the "Taiwu New Village" was a military dependents' village for high- ranking military officers after the 823 Artillery Bombardment in Kinmen. As it was constructed during the US aid period, the Taiwu New Village was designed, under the influence by the American style, into a four-storey red brick and reinforced concrete building, which was set up with spacious American-style single-family houses, each with three bedrooms and two halls.
With the social changes and the reconstruction of military dependents' villages in the 1990s, many residents have moved out. Although the Village has been left idle for more than 20 years, its condition is still kept intact and many trees planted in the past have now grown into dense trees whose trucks are so thick that one can get one's arms around. Some of the trees are even in the family of precious high-grade trees.
Located on the west bank of Dahanxi River and 2 km away from Daxi Old Street on the east bank, the Taiwu New Village is surrounded by the settlements inhabited by Fujian and Hakka people. Due to the complete preservation of architectural texture and the housing space, the site has been registered as a historical building, and a work station whose operation at this phase is called "Taiwuju Gathering" has been set up at No. 22, Taiwu New Village to collect the stories of this military dependents' village through interviews and video recordings. In the future, it is planned to set up the "823 Artillery Battle Memorial Hall" to collect and preserve historical image materials, to develop a creative platform for "creation, mutual assistance and experience", to encourage artists to station here for exchanges and to establish and form a new public and open stronghold for cultural tourism in the Daxi and Qiding areas."
