打狗英國領事館官邸正名 Former British Consulate Residence at Dagou 高雄市市定古蹟打狗英國領事館官邸，完工於1879年，由當時的大英帝國陸軍皇家工程部設計監造，為一獨立之紅磚建物。打狗英國領事館辦公室 (含巡捕辦公室與監牢) 則設於哨船頭海濱，兩棟建物以登山古道上下聯結。 1858年天津條約及1860年北京條約簽訂之後，臺灣被迫逐步開放通商口岸，打狗為其中之一。英國為拓展對台灣貿易的經濟利益，設置領事館，主要功能為保僑、商務、行使領事裁判權及地方交涉等。本建築為打狗領事館官邸，係領事居住及接待使節賓客的重要場所。 1895年日本統治臺灣後，領事館官邸被改作高雄海洋觀測所；1945年國民政府接收台灣後，曾作為氣象局測候所，1977年因賽洛瑪颱風毀壞，惟其具有見證打狗開港後海洋經貿歷史發展的文化意義，經修復後於1987年指定公告為古蹟。 打狗英國領事館官邸因史料不足，長期被認為英國領事館官邸兼辦公室，經學界詳察英國國家檔案局資料，證實領事館辦公室設於哨船頭海濱，本建物為領事館官邸。高雄市政府文化局為使真確史實重現，特予正名。 The Kaohsiung City historical British Consulate at Dagou comprises of two buildings, the consul’s residence and an office. The residence is a standalone red brick building that functioned as the official domicile of the consul, which was completed in 1879, and was designed and built by the Royal Army Engineering Corps. The office, which includes a police station and jail, was built on the Shaochuantou waterfront and is connected to the residence by a mountain path.
