史料原文/譯文Built during the Japanese era, the Guest House once belonged to the Monopoly Bureau of Office of the Taiwan Governor-General. Top-quality Taiwan cypress were used for its simple and graceful interior; the original wood beam was kept, with only the roof tiles renovated.
The Bureau used to harvest and monopolize the sale of camphor in Jiaoban Mountain; the "Jiaoban Mt. Camphor Storage Office" nearby belonged to it.
The global demand for Taiwan's camphor from Qing Dynasty to the Japanese ruling is quite high, even reaching to more than 70% of world production in its heyday. This was the reason why governments in charge fought against the Atayals, and set up offices and guesthouses for the control of the mountains.
Since the Nationalists took over, it became part of Xinzhu Forest District Office's guesthouse. Given the quality of the woods, not much renovation was needed.
