史料原文/譯文This historical Japanese-style Residence was built in 1934 at the north corner following the completion of Xinjie Elementary School. Originally the dormitory for the school's staff, now it features a timeline of the housing history on a timber deck, an ecological landscape pond and interpretive sign posts.
The Residence is a Class B official housing for lower-ranking officials with a dual- occupancy design and unified facade. Rainproof walls, wooden piled dwelling (height at c. 60cm), and air vents were installed to keep from heat and humidity. Its sloping roof is multi- leveled and covered with black cement tiles. The wall is kept well, densely shaded by the surrounding big trees such as banyans, camphors, Zelkovas, and Eucalypts.
Research and restoration efforts have been made for this historical building since 2004 under the supervision from both the school and the local government. Completed in 2009, the Residence was officially transformed into the Xinjie Cultural Pavilion a year later, making it a space to learn of its history, for teacher training, music and theatre practices and performances, plus exhibitions, with school obtaining certification for its feature curriculum.
