"According to the "Hsinchu State Newspaper" in 1941, funds for the police dormitory buildings were raised from the residents of Zhongli County under the announcement of "police matter" at that time. Named as "construction fee for the police dormitory buildings", the fundraising period for the project was about one year, presumed to be around the 16th year of the Showa reign (1941-1942). The current location of the Zhongli Precinct was formerly the Zhongli County Office in the Japanese colonial period. In the historical evolution of the administrative changes in the Zhongzhi area, the Zhongli Street was a setting area for important local administrative organizations. The "Xingnanzhuang" and "Sitouzhuang" were used as the local official offices for the Zhongli County Office in the period of the "Taoyuan Hall" and the Zhongli County Office in the period of "Hsinchu State". With the establishment of the office buildings in different periods, official dormitories were formed in the surrounding areas. In the past, the dormitory buildings were still retained on the land of the Zhongli Branch Office and the Zhongli County Office during the Japanese colonial period. The police quarters in this district were jointly built under the name of the Baojia Federation under the Japanese government. At that time, the residents were not limited to the Japanese, as a Taiwanese "patrol" Zhuang Sheng- ting also stayed in the dormitory. The dormitories were divided according to their sizes into four types, including the dormitory for senior officials, the dormitory for official class A, and the dormitory for class B. At that time, dormitories were allocated according to the position levels of police officers. For higher officials, the design of residence could be more flexible, with the main space of the dormitory being designed into "reception room" and "study room" and the secondary space being "stepping", "entrance", "kitchen", "female central", "bathroom" and "toilet". For the drainage purpose, the surrounding environment could be designed into "drainage ditch" and "dog walk". The Japanese-style Dormitory Group of Zhongli Police Station has witnessed the historic journey of the Japanese colonial period, the recession of National Government to Taiwan, the Period of National Mobilization for Suppression of the Communist Rebellion, and Taiwan's movements to democracy. In the future, this historic site will be displayed in the themes related to urban development and character stories and will be operated by means of citizen participation and empowerment of the community, as the Japanese-style Dormitory Group of the Zhongli Police Station symbolizes the milestones of space liberation and the reversal of the cultural landscape of Zhongli."
