史料原文/譯文A Japanese-style semi-detached housing, the Residence for County Government on Zhongping Road was home to Mr. Wang of the Indigenous Peoples Department, and Mr. Liao of the Education Bureau for about six decades. In 2010, it was registered as a Historic Building and turned into "Zhongping Road Story House," following the city government's promise to carry out related research and its renovation.
At the entrance, the sight of honeycomb briquettes piled into a wall was eye-opening for those who never used charcoal for cooking and boiling water. The Museum exhibits the Residence's restoration process, relaying the team's effort to balance between the traditional and the modern construction methods. A portrayal of the Hakka lifestyle is found: numerous old photos and memorabilia, a well-kept outdoors well, the pigsty and the garden.
The Residence is a Class B Japanese official housing, with an interior design of the stamping (lower-level entry point in Japanese-style residence), the hall (stilted floor by the stamping), the Washitsu (Japanese-style rooms), the family room, the engawa, the bathroom, and the kitchen, commonly found in the Kanto region of Japan. Its foundation beds were laid based on available spacing with cemented flooring, bricked pillars and walls. The bamboo walls are painted with lime ash; the ceiling and screening area are exposed.
Once a tranquil spot, today the Residence stands as the city's memory at the center of the affluent Zhongping commercial area.
