史料原文/譯文With an open-air concept, the 2015-built Daxi Wooden Art Museum was the first eco- museum in Taoyuan City. The entire exhibition includes the Residence for Daxi Elementary School, several other Japanese-style Residences and the Butokuden Martial Arts Dojo.
Residence for Daxi Elementary School is a traditionally Japanese-styled wooden pile dwelling built during the colonial times. It is the only architectural example in Daxi depicting history from the Japanese era's modern primary education, symbolic to the understanding of Taiwanese history at the time.
Located next to the Zhong-Zheng Park and 100 square meters wide, the Residence was home to many principals from Daxi Elementary School. Its last resident was Mr. Chen Mao- Lin, a Daxi Junior High School's English teacher. Born into a family of scholars, he studied in Japan, and married a Japanese lady who taught sewing at home. They eventually moved out as the housing condition deteriorated.
The Residence was registered as Taoyuan's "Historical Building" and overseen by the Cultural Affairs Bureau. It became the first exhibition opened to the public in Daxi Wood Art EcoMuseum, thus named "Hall No.1," allowing an opening to a brand new chapter for Daxi's cultural scenes.
