"The Daxi Public Hall, located next to Daxi Old Street, was built in the 10th year of Taisho reign during the Japanese colonial period (AD 1921). It was a public place for people's gatherings and events at that time and was once used as the eating and resting place for retinues of the visiting Japanese princes. The building is of significant historical value. It was registered as a historical building in 2004. After being renovated by the Department of Cultural Affairs of Taoyuan County Government, it was re-opened in October 2005 and became the local cultural center of Taoyuan County. In 2016, this Public Hall was included with the other two halls, namely the Chiang Kai-shek Hall and the Management Office and the Art Workshop, to form the "Wood Art Museum." Surrounded by thick trees, this rectangular brick building is an English-style one-story bungalow, which is made up of a large wooden truss and decorated with a flat stone tile and a diagonally sloping roof. Its slanted red exterior is designed with the geometric totem of brick and white horizontal stucco. Taking a closer look at the facade, you will find that the gable facade is decorated with straight waves of washed granolithic finish. It is a Tatsuno style derived from Anne, Queen of Great British and is indeed worth of appreciation. It is here that you will see the rich but simple wooden doors and windows painted in blue. They are so attractive that you cannot help but open the threshold and enter the museum, in which various art theme exhibitions are displayed and the long wooden benches in the gallery would make you think of the ancient past. Named as the Zhiqing Pavilion, the pavilion of washed granolithic finish in the southwest side is said to be the place where the scholars gathered in the past. Overlooking the Dahan River, this is also the place to berth your intellectual journey."
