史料原文/譯文The 1898-built Baisha Cape Lighthouse is the third built during the Japanese era and sits at the Guanyin Shore. Its uniqueness lies in the first-time application of bricks and stones.
The Lighthouse has a base, body, and a roofing area. Its cylindrical body has a double- brick stacking outer layer, with hollowed center carrying swirling staircases and rooms. The wide base narrows as it ascends, reaching to a terrace with calf-shaped brackets and railing supports on the fourth floor. The domed roof on the fifth floor is where the light is. The French BARBIER & BENARD's kerosene burner used for the 1901 light-up was the latest and the best at the time; the copper sign that reads "Babbier & Benard Constructeurs, Paris, 1897" is still kept.
The Japanese-design, Taiwanese-built lighthouse with a European facade makes it outstanding among Taiwan's 38 lighthouses. This is a city-designated Monument, and one of the best kept Lighthouses from the Japanese era.
