史料原文/譯文Nicknamed "Red Bridge," Daping Bridge's historical importance lies in it being one of Taiwan's rare red-bricked bridges still intact, plus the main channel between Daping and Sankeng Villages in the old days.
Sankeng was a bustling trading hub by Dahan River, yet challenging for Daping villagers from across to access. When the Japanese came into the area to build the Taoyuan Irrigation (1916-1924), local gentry raised funds to build the bridge. A subsidy from the district office allowed the Japanese engineers to use the same bricks for both constructions. Next to the bridge, a granite stele detailing the bridge's founding records stands, reminding us the power of communal efforts.
Upon closer look, the well-kept bridge features five semi-circular arches and pointed breakwaters. A Water Park built nearby is a rest stop for the cyclists riding through Sankeng, Daping, Shimen area, a spot for an appreciation of the clear stream flow, field view, and the Red Bridge's history.
