史料原文/譯文The old warehouse complex of Xinwu Farmers' Association is one of the remaining few granaries built in the Japanese Colonial Period in northern Taiwan. The structure, orientation, and design of the building are quite unique. Inside the warehouse there's a rare wooden rice polishing machine.
Funded by Office of the Taiwan Governor-General, there were 134 warehouses for agricultural purpose built during 1922-1942, together with the granaries run by industry union, the counts were up to 304 warehouses. The warehouse complex takes 1,320 m2, when the Farmers' Association's job was to purchase rice, provide polishing machine house and the storage space for farmers. The elegent struss, stucco inner walls, scale on the wall for measure of rice amount, and lion-head ridge‐end tile on the roof all speak uniqueness.
To process great amount of rice, the 3-story high, motor-operated wooden rice polishing machine used belt and bearing to control speed. The components and structures remain complete. Managed by Farmers' Association of Xinwu District, a "Rice Story House" is founded in the complex, preserving the entire memory of culture and history, while promoting rice with education purpose.
